TOWNSHIP STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE: November 7, 2023

Seguin Township Council adopted the Strategic Plan as presented at the November 6 Meeting of Council.

TOWNSHIP STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE: October 27, 2023
We appreciate that many of you took the time to provide feedback on our work to date.

Thank you to those who responded to Draft 1 of Seguin Township's Strategic Plan. We heard some concern that the document did not clearly convey Seguin's commitment to prioritize the environment. We have made revisions to ensure that this draft of the Strategic Plan demonstrates that the environment remains our priority during this term of council and beyond. Prioritizing the environment is the first foundation upon which all actions and decisions will be made.

Thank you to all of those in our community who shared their ideas about what staff and Council should prioritize in the years to come, during this term of Council and beyond.

The team has collected findings from our youth survey and community survey, a special meeting of council, thought leader workshops*, staff consultation, and youth engagement, to draft a new strategic plan for the Township as well as a draft plan for our library.

Please take a moment to review the documents and share your thoughts and feedback by October 20, 2023.

  • Share Seguin Township owns shoreline properties...most are adjacent to private property, but some are adjacent to parkland and public access areas. Why is there no reference to how shoreline property adjacent to parkland and shorline property reserved for special use will be studied and managed? For example, in Rosseau Bay there is shoreline that for over 120 years has been dedicated to the use of the permanent residents of Rosseau. It is not open for private purchase as in other areas of the lake. Residents have located on this shoreline with the understanding that it is not available for application for closing and purchase. It is a stretch of shoreline owned by the Municipality that is sorely in need of clarification and planning for the future. It should be formally recognised as part of any future strategic planning and Offical Plan. on Facebook Share Seguin Township owns shoreline properties...most are adjacent to private property, but some are adjacent to parkland and public access areas. • Share I was an invited stakeholder that helped design the 2019-2022 strategic plan. Many community leaders were present at this meeting. It was clearly expressed by attendees that all Seguin goals should be considered through an Environment first framework. The following references have been taken from the adopted 2019-2022 Strategic Plan. On Page 8 The Goals were all encapsulated within the Environmental Leadership. On page 9 That chart on page 8 was enhanced by the following clarification. GOAL 1: ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP IN EVERYTHING WE DO Objectives: • Build a safer, healthier and more resilient environment. This includes social and cultural environments. • Maintain and improve environmental quality • Lead by example as Environmental Leaders and Environmental Stewards In the document Strategic Plan 2023 and Beyond, I am concerned that the focus on the environment was removed completely from the Goal Statements. I see and applaud the Foundation # 1 position to Prioritize the Environment, but feel it was reduced in the goals and values. The other thing I hope could be addressed is the importance of preserving and monitoring the water quality on our lakes and groundwater. on Facebook Share I was an invited stakeholder that helped design the 2019-2022 strategic plan. • Share Seguin Township should change their slogan. Our environment is no longer the top priority for our elected officials. I feel it is important for residents to offer their input. But I am very skeptical as to whether our opinion really effects your agenda. Over the years I have witnessed many agendas pushed forward with great disregard for the residents of Seguin. Having read through the draft, I see the environment is no longer out front. Protecting our environment is key to protecting the physical and mental well being of all of the residents of Seguin. It is the reason many people like myself choose to live here and others choose to vacation here. The environment underpins our economy, our society and our very existence. If we fail to protect our environment, we will put the lives of humans, animals, plants, and more at risk. on Facebook Share Seguin Township should change their slogan.
