Seguin Council has adopted a new long-term strategy to improve trails and active transportation in the Township. The Active Transportation and Trails Master Plan was presented to Seguin Council on January 10 by the consulting firm WSP and is the result of over nine months of research, planning, and consultation with the public and staff. The presentation is available here (at 25:10).

The plan aims to:

  • Enhance connectivity between trail networks, sidewalks and on-road cycling routes to create an integrated, connected system of active transportation and trails infrastructure.

  • Identify priorities relating to trail maintenance, accessibility and safety, and develop new routes that are based on strong financial and implementation strategies.

  • Broaden the Township’s approach to active transportation by promoting new programming initiatives.

  • Provide opportunities for residents and stakeholders to help shape the Township’s approach to promoting active transportation and trail use.

  • Strengthen Seguin’s reputation as an ideal tourist destination.
  • Create new economic opportunities for existing and prospective local businesses.

This vision reflects the Township’s environmental and community priorities. “Council is inspired by this plan. It is thorough and full of efficient, innovative ways to make Seguin Township an even more incredible place to live, work, and play,” says Seguin Mayor Ann MacDiarmid. “Our council agrees that this plan is in step with our residents’ unrivalled passion for being active outdoors and our appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us.”
